Message from the Dean
Our mission in the UCR School of Medicine is to expand and diversify the physician workforce for Inland Southern California and to be a catalyst for improving the health of the population we serve. This mission is considerably broader than the mission of most medical schools, and as a new endeavor, the UCR medical school is well-positioned to create innovative teaching, research and patient care programs to meet 21st century health care challenges.
This is an era of change for health care in the United States, a change that demands a different paradigm for training the next generation of physicians and biomedical researchers – health care leaders with an orientation to prevention, wellness and cost effectiveness, as well as cultural competence and an understanding of the impact of health care disparities. We must also work in partnership with our communities to initiate programs to improve health of people living our region. From a research perspective, we need to develop the scientific expertise to transition basic biomedical insights into measurable improvements in health.
We invite you to explore how the UCR School of Medicine will make a positive difference in health care.
G. Richard Olds, M.D.
Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs
Dean, UCR School of Medicine
