• Prior to joining the School of Medicine Planning Office, Barton was director of technology collaboration at UCR, facilitating public/private partnerships to expand research opportunities for UCR and assisting campus technology commercialization efforts
• UCR staff member for 23 years, also holding positions in news media relations and research development
• Serves on the board of the Hunter Park Division of the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce
• Former president of the UCR Staff Assembly
• Former staff writer at the Orange County Register
• Bachelor's degree in Communications from the California State University, Fullerton
