Dr. Dalia N. Balsamo, M.D. is an assistant clinical professor and associate training director in the Psychiatry Residency Program at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. Her specialties are forensic psychiatry and child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry.

Balsamo earned her B.A. with distinction in cognitive science and neuroscience at the University of Virginia, then earned her M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh with additional coursework in neuroscience and medical humanities. She performed her residency in general psychiatry at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by fellowships at the Yale School of Medicine in child and adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.

While at Yale she served as a clinical fellow at the Child Study Center, an associate at the Yale New Haven Hospital, and a clinical fellow with the Law & Psychiatry Division and attending physician in the Department of Child Psychiatry.

Balsamo is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the American Medical Association, and the Connecticut Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology. She is board certified in psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and child and adolescent psychiatry.

She speaks French, Farsi, Spanish, Italian, and German.

Research Interests

Balsamo's research has included the ethical and legal aspects of sex offender treatment. She has also made presentations on gender and gender identity and juvenile justice issues.
