Dr. Jesus Bucardo, M.D., M.P.H. is an associatet professor of psychiatry at the UC Riverside School of Medicine and a staff psychiatrist with the Riverside County Department of Mental Health.

Bucardo previously was an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He was also an associate psychiatrist for the UCSD Medical Group

After earning his M.D. in Mexico, Bucardo received an M.P.H. with an emphasis in epidemiology and biostatistics from San Diego State University. Following a fellowship at UCSF at the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, he then conducted a psychiatry internship at Loma Linda University, followed by his residency at UCSD.

He is a member of the American Public Health Association, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatrists. He has served as a peer-reviewer for several journals.

Research Interests

Bucardo's research interests include psychosis, schizophrenia, intervention research, transcultural and international psychiatry. He developed and implemented PEDAL—Programa de Entrenamiento y Desarrollo de Aptitudes para Latinos, a six-month functional psychosocial intervention for older Hispanic patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. He also was co-investigator on several research grants at the UCSD Advanced Center for Innovative Intervention and Services Research and the UCSD HIV Neuropsychiatric Research Center.
