Biography

Dr. Mark Linskey, M.D., is a tenured professor of neurological surgery at the University of California, Irvine and holds a joint academic appointment at the UC Riverside School of Medicine, where he works 40% of his time. He sees an operates on patients at Riverside Community Hospital as well as at UCR Health Neurosurgery.

Linskey, who is a nationally-, and internationally-known as a surgical neuro-oncologist and cerebrovascular neurosurgeon with a long and distinguished reputation as an academic neurosurgeon, was previously chairman of neurological surgery at UCI where he rebuilt the department and established their neurosurgery residency training program.

He has subspecialty training and interests in cranial and spinal microsurgery and minimally-invasive endoscopic surgery for skull base tumors, stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumors, as well as microsurgery and radiosurgery for cranial nerve disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm.

He is on the writing panel for the national neurosurgery clinical practice parameter guidelines for the treatment of metastatic brain tumors as well as low grade gliomas, and the international writing panel for the Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology (RANO) contribution to assessing clinical trial response for treatment of metastatic brain tumors.

Linskey's editorial experience includes serving as:

  • a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Neuro-Oncology since 2007,
  • editor of the American College of Physicians Smart Medicine module for training physicians regarding trigeminal neuralgia,
  • co-editor of the Clinical Evidence Module for trigeminal neuralgia for the British Medical Association,
  • a Cochrane Reviewer for Trigeminal Neuralgia,
  • and as the Western Regional Director of the Medical Advisory Board of TNA – The Facial Pain Association.

Linskey has a conversational command of Spanish.

Research Interests

Linskey runs a glioma malignant brain tumor laboratory at the UC Irvine campus, with the critical collaboration of his long-time colleague Yi-Hong Zhou, Ph.D., that focuses on the biological implications of the PAX 6 signaling pathway on the biology of malignant gliomas, as well as exploring new translational discoveries for potential “bench-to-bedside” translational application as new therapies for patients with malignant gliomas.
