Dr. Richard Prather, M.D., is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry and associate training director of the psychiatric residency training program. He also serves as associate medical director for the western region and staff psychiatrist for the Riverside County Department of Mental Health.

Prather previously served as an assistant clinical professor and a site director for the University of California, San Diego Psychiatry Residency Training Program. He has also served as an assistant clinical professor with the UCLA - Kern Psychiatry Residency Training Program where he was also the associate training director. In addition, he served as assistant clinical professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Department of Psychiatry in Dallas, Texas.

He earned his B.A. in biology and chemical sciences from California State University, Chico, then earned his M.D. from Oral Roberts University. He conducted his internship at the Stanford Family Practice Program at San Jose Health Center, followed by his residency in psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego.

Research Interests

Prather's interests include general adult psychiatry, medical education, community psychiatry, psychodynamic psychotherapy, chemical use disorders, and physician wellness.
