Mission of the UCR Medical School

The mission of the UCR School of Medicine is to improve the health of the people of California and, especially, to serve Inland Southern California by training a diverse workforce of physicians and by developing innovative research and health care delivery programs that will improve the health of the medically underserved in the region and become models to be emulated throughout the state and nation.

A New Medical School for Inland Southern California

If you aspire to be a patient-centered physician, if your passion is serving those in your community who are less fortunate, the UCR School of Medicine may be the pathway to achieving your dream.

The inaugural class of medical students entering in August 2013 will become the sixth medical school in the world renowned University of California. This medical school is distinctive in its focus on serving the needs of the Inland Southern California region — a rapidly growing and ethnically diverse region that is home to 4.2 million people.

With an initial class size of 50, UCR medical students will benefit from an intimate educational experience that features:

  • A organ-based, integrated approach to the science of human biology and disease,
  • Instruction in clinical skills from the very beginning,
  • A distinctive, longitudinal clinical experience that begins in Year 2, and
  • Mentorship from a team of student-centered biomedical science faculty and community-based clinical faculty.
