Health Care Administrative Internships & Fellowships at UC Riverside School of Medicine

In order to encourage emerging health administrative managers, the UCR School of Medicine offers both internships and fellowships for health administration students and graduates. Our goal is to hire and retain administrative leaders who will help move our organization forward.

Administrative Fellowships

One-year health administrative fellowships will be offered each year to graduates who complete a masters in health administration, masters of business administration with a health concentration, or masters in policy with a health or business concentration. Fellows are not required to have any prior healthcare administration experience beyond formal education.

Fellow rotations for academic year 2019/2020 will include six months working in clinical operations and clinical finance, three months in general and research finance and operations, and three months in education and faculty development.

How to Apply

Fellowship applications will be accepted from October through December 31 of any given year with fellowship year beginning in August of the following year. Prospective fellows will apply online including a mandatory cover letter which should include their expected graduation date. Interviews for fellowship positions will commence in January with offers made in early spring for an August 1 start date.

Current Fellows
  • Destiny Britton, M.S.H.S.A.,  Cal State San Bernardino
  • Carla Urmeneta, M.B.A., Cal Baptist University

Unpaid internships are offered for students in undergraduate health administrative programs. Internships can be for-credit as part of a formal externship or not-for-credit during student breaks.

Who May Apply

In order to qualify for an internship at UCR School of Medicine, students must be in good standing and currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree granting program in health administration, business administration with a health concentration, or health/public policy.

Programs must have a formal affiliation with UCR SOM in order to begin their internship. Current affiliated programs include:

  • California State University San Bernardino Program in Health Administration
  • California Baptist University Health Sciences
  • La Sierra University Zapara School of Business

Students attending programs for which no current affiliation exists may still apply with the understanding that the application may take longer as an affiliation agreement will need to be executed prior to the student joining UCR.

Interns may be placed within the School of Medicine or UCR Health. Internships are designed based on number of interns, and business needs. Interns may request exposure to particular areas of the organization, including clinical operations, medical education, research, or business operations.

How to Apply

Students interested in applying for an internship should send a letter of interest by email Associate Dean and CFAO Louise Borda.
