The Thomas Haider Program at the UCR School of Medicine
Visionary Support for the UCR School of Medicine
Dr. Thomas T. Haider and Mrs. Salma Haider have long supported the goal to educate physicians for distinguished medical careers in service to underserved, inland and rural populations.
An Enduring Tradition
Built upon the foundation established by the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biomedical Sciences, the new UCR School of Medicine has established the Thomas Haider Program at the UCR School of Medicine. The Haider Program will maintain its original charter to recruit, admit and support students from underrepresented groups who are from UC Riverside.
The Thomas Haider Program at the UCR School of Medicine will continue the tradition of providing a unique pathway into medical school for UCR students, with up to 24 of the 50 seats in the charter class filled by students who attend UCR for at least six consecutive quarters and complete their bachelor’s degree at UCR. Students admitted to the Haider Program will complete all four years of medical school at UCR, with the M.D. degree awarded by UC Riverside.
How to Apply
Students who by the time of UCR graduation have completed at least six consecutive quarters of study at UC Riverside are eligible to apply to the UCR School of Medicine through the American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS®) and will be placed into the Haider Program applicant pool.
Program Components
In addition, the Haider Program will encompass several student pipeline initiatives of the medical school that are designed to assist UCR students interested in a career in medicine.
- FastStart — for incoming UCR freshmen
- Medical Scholars Program — for UCR undergraduates, including transfer students
- Health Professions Advising Center — for any UCR undergraduates interested in a career in the medical or health fields
- Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program — for undergraduate degree holders from UCR
The UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biomedical Sciences
