Dr. Phyllis A. Guze, M.D. is a founding member of the the UCR School of Medicine leadership team. She joined the school in 2008 as acting vice chancellor of medical sciences and dean of the medical school. Guze has provided leadership in all planning aspects for the school, including accreditation, administrative appointments, curriculum development and facilities development.

Guze had served as a professor of medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine since 1985, was the dean for education from 1991 to 1995, and the executive vice chair for affiliated programs from 1986 to 2005. She was chair emeritus at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System Department of Medicine. She continues to serve on the VA Greater Los Angeles/UCLA Dean's Committee.

She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science,the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine, the Association of Professors of Medicine, the Association of VA Chiefs of Medicine, and the American College of Physicians, for which she was the chair of the board of regents in 2012-13.

Guze earned her M.D. from the Univeristy of Southern California School of Medicine, then served her internship, residency and fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. in Torrance, CA.

Research Interests

She has participated in a variety of research projects throughout her career. Her recent work has had an emphasis in the development of curriculum and educators in community-based settings.
