The Department of Social Medicine, Population, and Public Health at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine is seeking an emerging scholar for a postdoctoral position under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Subica.

For this position, we are seeking a highly-motivated candidate to support a NIAAA-funded study to conduct a randomized controlled trial of a novel alcohol prevention intervention for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander young adults. The scholar will have direct responsibility in coordinating the study, including supporting Dr. Subica and his team in: maintaining in-person and virtual collaboration and communication with community partners; assisting in intervention-related trainings and intervention delivery; monitoring outreach and recruitment protocols; conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis; developing study designs; and scholarly dissemination within both community and scientific forums.

We particularly seek candidates with applied research skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently in partnering with community groups and stakeholders to collect and analyze data, maintain strong community working relationships, and prepare articles for publication. The postdoctoral scholar will receive mentorship, supervision, and training from Dr. Subica in establishing a successful independent research career including preparing and submitting peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and extramural grants as principal, co-principal, or co-investigator. Individuals interested in health disparities, community-based participatory research, or Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, Indigenous, or other minority/underserved populations are especially encouraged to apply.

Desired Education/Experience:

  • PhD in public health, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field
  • Proficiency or interest in community-based participatory research, intervention trials research, and planning research projects  
  • Ability to work independently in completing administrative and community-oriented tasks necessary to complete community-based research projects
  • High level of organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with members of underserved, Indigenous, or minority groups
  • Experience preparing and submitting reports and manuscripts for submission to funders and peer-reviewed journals.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 23 for the Postdoctoral Scholar (Employee, Fellow, Paid Direct) salary range, the base salary range for these positions is $69,073 - $82,836.
