M.D./M.P.P. Concurrent Degree Program

Public Policy Concurrent Degree Program

Offered by the UC Riverside School of Medicine and School of Public Policy, the M.D./Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.) Concurrent Degree Program will develop physician leaders who will continue their careers in helping to mold the changing landscape of healthcare policy in the United States. The program is intended for individuals who have an interest in public policy as it relates to health care delivery and the desire to be involved in policy during their careers.

Federal/state health care policy
Medical leadership
Advocacy
Health care consulting

The program is open solely to UCR medical students who have entered their third year of medical school and will apply separately to the School of Public Policy. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to perform well in medical school coursework, a commitment to primary care, and communication and clinical skills. Among a typical medical school class of 50 students, three to five are expected to apply for the degree program.

Applying to the Program

Students interested in the concurrent degree program will apply to the School of Public Policy through its regular application process during the fall or winter of their third year in medical school.

The application will include:

Two letters of recommendation
Medical school transcripts
Undergraduate transcripts
Statement of personal history
Statement of purpose, including details of their interests in public policy as well as how the degree will shape their future career.
Most recent MCAT score

The GRE is not required for admission into the program.

Students will be notified about their admission status by the spring of their third year in medical school and will be enrolled in the School of Public Policy the following fall.
